Instructions

Instructions

  1. Make the rub. Combine paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, pepper, and salt.

  2. Prep the pork. Pat pork shoulder dry. Rub spice mixture all over, getting into any crevices.

  3. Set up slow cooker. Pour broth and vinegar into the slow cooker. Place pork on top, fat side up.

  4. Cook low and slow. Cover and cook on LOW for 10-12 hours, or HIGH for 6-8 hours. The meat should easily pull apart with a fork.

  5. Shred. Transfer pork to a cutting board. Remove any bones and large fat pieces. Shred with two forks.

  6. Combine with juices. Return shredded pork to the slow cooker. Toss with cooking juices. Season with more salt if needed.

Serving Ideas

  • In lettuce wraps with slaw
  • Over cauliflower rice
  • In a bowl with avocado and cheese
  • On low-carb wraps
  • Straight from the pot (carnivore style)

Sugar-Free BBQ Sauce

Skip the store-bought sauce with hidden sugars. Make your own with:

  • Tomato paste, vinegar, smoked paprika, sweetener, liquid smoke

Notes

  • Bone-in shoulder has more flavour
  • The fat cap bastes the meat as it cooks
  • Freezes perfectly—portion into containers for easy meals
  • Also amazing for taco nights
